MATLAB: Does the MATLAB 7.7 (R2008b) sometimes hang for a while when running McAfee Anti-Virus

I am using MATLAB 7.7 (R2008b) and experience that sometimes my MATLAB becomes unresponsive for a while. This happens for example when using the MATLAB Editor.
I have installed McAfee Anti-Virus on my machine. Furthermore my preference files are stored on the network.

  • This enhancement has been incorporated in Release 2010b (R2010b). For previous product releases, read below for any possible workarounds:
    This seems to be an interaction between MATLAB and McAfee in the way that McAfee scans every file that is opened by MATLAB causing tremendous delays in some cases. In order to avoid McAfee scanning all these files you can add your MATLAB preference directory and subdirectories to the McAfee exclude list.
