Ubuntu – Intel Wireless Wifi Link 5100 on Trusty Tahr not working

14.04iwlwifiwireless

Hi I am new to linux and using trustry tahr. Earlier on windows, wifi used to work properly but recently when I switched to ubuntu 14.04 it does not connect to any network even though list of available networks is shown. I tried many answers posted on this site for similar problem but nothing worked. I am posting the output of some of the commands.
Thanks in advance.

sudo lshw -C network

  • This is more of a generalized answer to your question and don't claim to be a guru. I am running 14.04LTS and it appears from your output that the hardware is seen by Ubuntu. What I had found on my network was that any security regime using MAC addresses didn't really work and I suspect that my mac address isn't transmitted to the router. I need to look into this further when I have more time.

I was using mac address filtering on top of the other security. After being lead into thinking that it was the driver etc and OEM support issues, I tackled the problem by removing all the security (see note below) and trying to connect. Fortunately it did, and so went about securing the network in a more compatible way.

Please note that my method was a calculated risk. My internet modem still had its' firewall in place, my lap top doesn't have any file sharing, and my router (admin) is password protected but remember that your router can be accessed at that time.

I suspect that the problems I encountered was using a relatively old router, and as mentioned, the transmission of mac addresses.

I hope this helps you navigate a solution. regards
